When you’re hanging or suspending something, the big question is: threaded rod or wire rope? Both get the job done, but one of them makes your life a whole lot easier.
We’ll let you into a secret… it’s WIRE.
Threaded Rod: Need a 4m drop? That means buying a 3m rod, a 1m rod and some couplers to join them. More cutting means more messing around, and sometimes even a hot works permit!
Wire Rope: Need 4m? Just snip off 4m of wire and you’re sorted. No couplers, no stress.
Threaded Rod: Heavy machinery is often needed to cut the rod, and if hot works (like cutting with a saw or grinder) are involved, you’ll need permits and extra safety steps.
Wire Rope: Lightweight, easy to handle and all you need is a cutter. No permits, no sparks, no headaches.
Threaded Rod: Once it’s in, it’s in. Not much wiggle room if you need to make changes.
Wire Rope: Super flexible – adjust length, reposition and shorten on the spot.
Threaded Rod: Long, heavy and awkward to transport. Takes more time on site to cut, join and line up. More labour hours, more hardware, more cost.
Wire Rope: Lightweight, compact to transport, and much faster to install (less labour = less money). Plus, you don’t need couplers, saws or other bulky equipment.
Threaded Rod: Every join is a potential weak point. Over time, things can loosen or fatigue.
Wire Rope: No joins, no weak spots. Just consistent strength from end to end.
