The ultra-modern headquarters of Peak Pharmacy (PCT Healthcare Ltd.) opened in April 2023 and was purpose-built to allow the business to process millions of prescriptions per year for patients using state-of-the-art robots and automated systems, supporting staff in handling over 400,000 medicines and other prescribed items every month!

The new £20m headquarters and logistics centre, situated near Junction 29A of the M1, handles prescriptions and dispatches medicines for the firm’s 150 community pharmacies across England, and at 10,500 m2 (113,000 sq ft) replaced five smaller existing Peak Pharmacy sites in Derbyshire. The site was developed to fully support the company’s focus on the environment and sustainability.

East Midlands-based construction and electrical contractor Peak Evolution were awarded the fit-out contract for the facility, including full M+E – electrical, AC MVHR, HVAC, plumbing, aspirating fire alarm, networking, CCTV, intruder alarm, and access control.

Zip-Clip were invited by Peak Evolution, in the first instance, to discuss options for suspending basket, tray, and ladder containment around the warehouse perimeter, however, conversations soon moved on to busbars and the issue that most of these required locating between the building purlins.

THE SOLUTION

Zip-Clip Technical Sales Manager Alec Webster proposed the use of the Span-Lock Catenary System and a solution was designed by our in-house technical team that optimised materials/components usage to ensure installation efficiency whilst fulfilling operational and environmental requirements of the end client.

Once the advantages of using Zip-Clip wire rope solutions were realised, including their flexibility and speed of installation, they were soon adopted in many other areas of the project as can be seen in the photographs.

A range of Zip-Clip products was specified for the suspension of building services including electrical containment runs, duct-work and lighting, and these were supplied through distribution partner Armaflo. As well as Span-Lock and Zip-Grip catenary systems, solutions supplied included the Rize, Strut-Lock, Loop-It, Try-Lock, and Knock-It systems.
